The new season for Robson Ranch Happy Tails Dog Club kicked off with a guest speaker from a local pet business in Argyle at their Saturday, September 13, meeting. Marjorie Burgess, the manager at new Petco on University in Denton, was scheduled to be a guest speaker but did not make it to the meeting. C. J. Kolb from Truman and Roscoe’s Pet Transport and Kennel was also scheduled to speak and gave a very interesting talk.

C. J. spoke about his experience of being held captive in Iraq in 1999. While captive he began looking after a pack of stray dogs and bonded with the pack leader. Always an animal lover, a few years ago he moved back to Texas and bought four acres of land in Argyle for his home. He built a large barn on the property, one-third of which is heated and air conditioned and used for kennels to board pets. He provides a transportation service that includes trips to vet appointments or to the emergency vet, all at reasonable prices. You are welcome to visit C. J.’s operation at 905 Skyline Drive in Argyle or call him at 940-435-2883.

Upcoming events for the club include the following:

The October 4 meeting will be at the home of Linda and Tom Watrak, 11208 Southerland Drive, from 10:30 until noon. Santa will be there to have pictures made with your pets.

On October 11 from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Happy Tails members are invited to help with a Pet Adoption in front of the clubhouse. The event is part of the Women’s Club “Holiday Market at the Ranch.” Cute and adoptable dogs will be provided by EARS: Education and Animal Rescue Society.

The November 8 meeting will be in Room 103, Indian Paint Brush, of the Creative Arts and Technology Building. Hannelore Orkis, a renowned obedience instructor known to many at Robson Ranch, will answer questions about obedience and training.

Happy Tails features interesting speakers and plans pet-related events. Annual membership dues are $10 for new members (per family) and $5 for renewals, which are due now for the membership year.

The new Happy Tails officers for 2014-2015 are Lana Aberbach, president; Linda Svoboda, vice president/programs; Joyce Brein, secretary; Linda Watrak, treasurer; and Rebecca Laschinger, membership.
