New Foliage and New Friends

Members sharing seeds and plant starts

Ellen Sullivan

Members of the Robson Ranch Garden Club look forward to our annual plant exchange in the springtime. This year was no exception. Even winter’s last burst of frigid wind and cold temperatures couldn’t keep us away from this fun annual tradition. In fact, a huge number of seeds, plant cuttings, and starts were shared at the meeting held on March 16 at the Club House.

There were several varieties of ivy, annual outdoor plant starts, houseplants and bulbs for outside. Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Year’s cactus were shared. There were even 3 trees offered!

Everyone sharing plants described how best to propagate and successfully grow them. Pictured are most of the members who brought cuttings, etc. to share. But even more people attended the meeting and shared in the bounty!

Raffle tickets were given at the door and all present received at least one plant of their choice.

This yearly tradition has fostered many friendships within the group. Members find it fun to share ways to keep their new plants and starts thriving by staying in touch with the member who gave it. For example, one plant start was from a Chinese Evergreen houseplant. It is from a family heirloom, having been in the giver’s family for three generations.

Please continue to save your egg cartons, and bring them to our monthly meetings. We will deliver them to Shiloh Field to help with their dispensing of produce to Food Pantries and kitchens in the Denton area.

In April, Garden Club members will visit Barbara Smith’s gardens which are nearby. Just one more good reason to become a member of Robson Ranch Garden Club! Remember, we meet September through May each year and dues are only $10 per household.
