Support Our Troops

Lynne Moore

The annual Support Our Troops (SOT) golf tournament is coming up on Friday, April 24, and we have sold-out the tickets for the tournament. Thanks to all of Robson and the many sponsors for participating in our annual fundraiser. It means we can continue to support all those military men and women and their families that protect our country! Our raffle prize this year is Golf for Four at Oakmont Country Club. There will also be items included at the Silent Auction, including a $1,000 discount coupon from Grapevine Golf Cars. For those people who are not playing golf but want to attend the luncheon, you can make reservations before April 14.

We presently support 105 troops. Thirteen are now deployed and 92 are in the United States. Our deployed troops are in Kuwait, Italy, Korea, the United Kingdom, and unknown waters. Our troops that are currently in the Middle East cannot receive mail or gift boxes. In February, we sent off 33 boxes to the other deployed troops. Our Robson Sassy Stampers make beautiful handmade cards every month on which our members write greetings to the troops.

Our Young Men’s Service League, YMSL, met on March 16. These young men and their moms come from Argyle every month. They get to write to the troops and also hear from a veteran or speaker. This month it was Chuck and Carren Ziegnefuss, who run “Hero Labradors,” a non-profit located in Decatur. They train support animals for veterans. If you are interested in this organization, you can check their website: www.herolabradors.org.

The 2026 Brick Drive is getting started. For those of you new to the Ranch, the Veterans Park is located between the Wildhorse Grill and the Clubhouse. The park contains hundreds of bricks honoring veterans and those who currently serve. Now is a great time to consider including a brick honoring your service, as well as members of your family. Brick order forms are available below the SOT Tribute Book located near the Activity Directors desk in the Clubhouse. If you have questions, you can go to our website www.supportourtroopstexas.com/veterans-park

We were very happy to welcome new members to SOT at our March meeting. You do not have to be a veteran to join SOT. It’s a wonderful organization that meets on the second Monday of the month at 1 p.m. in the Clubhouse. We look forward to seeing you then.
