Stan Brein
On August 11, the club had a breakfast ride to the Golden Egg Cafe in Bartonville. Joseph Ace, Vicki and Scott Baker, Pam and Dennis Dotson, Marti and Mike Conley, Jim Sico, Steve Haugen, Neil Schaefer, Ted Soprenuk, Steve Wiley, and Stan Brein set out at 7:45 a.m. Vicki competently handled the ride captain duties, navigating Scott to meander through the bucolic backroads of Argyle and Bartonville to put us in direct competition with the myriad of bicyclists vying for ownership of the road. Biko and Rocky Bega, brothers and owners of the Golden Egg, always serve up delicious breakfast standards with a unique touch. Everyone enjoyed their entrees in a safe and fun outdoor setting. We regrouped and returned to the confines of the Ranch before the temperatures got too toasty!
Thanks to the magic of Zoom, we conducted a club board meeting on August 10. The board made the decision to cancel all long rides for the remainder of the year. This will be revisited for 2021. We will continue to schedule breakfast, lunch, and dinner rides for the year. To encourage broader participation and new venues, each board member will recruit a club member to plan a ride. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that we will have an end-of-year party, but we are thinking about doing the holiday caroling again.
Again this year, the club will support and participate in the Coats4Kids Ride. It is not certain if the ride will take place, but the need for coats not only continues but is even more pronounced this year. The purpose of the ride is to collect new coats for school children, from preschool to high school, in all the school districts in Denton county. Many of these children have never had the pleasure of receiving a new clothing item.
We urge each of you to consider donating a new coat. Encourage your friends, neighbors, and members of other clubs to which you belong to do the same. Robson Ranch has been very generous with their donations in the past and we want to continue our support this year. Contact any club member or me, Stan Brein, at [email protected] for information or to donate a coat.
Upcoming highlights for the remainder of the year include the months of September, October, November, and December.
Be safe. Be well.
See you on the road!
Beware of cagers and keep the rubber side down.
