September 2022 may have been a hot month, but not too hot for 64 Robson Ranch Women’s Golf Association (RRWGA) members to invite guests from across the nation to come play golf at the Robson Ranch Wildhorse Golf Course on Sept. 22 and 23. The member/guest tournament drew golfers from 12 states as far away as Pennsylvania in the east, Minnesota in the north, California in the west, and Oregon in the northwest, for example. This was the 15th Annual RRWGA Hoof ‘n Heels Tournament, and it started with a warm “Howdy” and continued with that traditional Texas spirit throughout the two days. Everyone enjoyed their time at Robson Ranch. All players received tee gifts of golf shoes, custom hats or visors, ball marker, glove, and tumbler.

Keeping with the overall name of the tournament, players were divided into five flights: Flight 1: Thoroughbred, Flight 2: Arabian, Flight 3: Mustang, Flight 4: Stallion, and Flight 5: Quarter Horse. Thursday was practice day, ending with a catered Italian dinner by Joe’s Italian Restaurant at Mary Burke’s home. Wine was spilled (on the lawn, of course), tales were told about famous golf outings, pictures of the cutest grandchildren somehow surfaced, and new friendships emerged. But Friday morning’s 7 a.m. check-in and breakfast at the clubhouse came early, and off went the two-person teams for their pictures and 8:30 a.m. 6-6-6 scramble shotgun start.

The golf courses were full all morning into early afternoon, ending in some fantastic scores announced after lunch. And what a fantastic western-style lunch Ann Brehm and her committee (Kerri Billingsley, Shannon Dunson, Marlene Womack, Bonnie Kohnert, and Cheryl McCally) served: dry-rub chicken wings, pulled pork sliders with BBQ sauce, assorted salads, jalapeno poppers, warm peach cobbler with Blue Bell ice cream, and Lone Star beer and margaritas. Door prizes were handed out and winners of the tournament announced.

The Overall Gross winner was Kerri Billingsley and Stacy Dennis
