Wild About Champions

Robson Cup winner Jeannie Martinez, Silver Cup winner Gabie Bull, and Club Champion Kerrie Kay

Ana Corey, Publicity Chair

Once a champion, always a champion. And, boy, were we wowed by our champion this year in the annual WGA Club Championship! It took a three-hole playoff to determine the winner. It was a thrilling experience to watch two equally talented ladies play with such grace and sportsmanship. Three times after a tie final score, they both went to the tee box and hit signature long drives with equal skill reaching the green. Twice they both made par and had to return to the tee box for the thrilling third attempt. The winner had a shorter putt for par, while the second-place player ended with a bogey. But at the end of the day, either player would have been just as excited had their competitor won. Thank you to Kerri Kay and Sheri Watkins for the excitement. Both are true champions, but there can only be one winner, Kerry Kay, for the second year in a row, and Sherry Watkins, a close second.

Congratulations to all the winners:

The tournament was capped off by a wonderful luncheon with golden almond sparkling wine and gold, gold, gold décor celebrating all the champions from this year, as well as all the previous years. It was fantastic to see and honor the ladies who came before us as winners and as the true matriarchs of the Women’s Golf Association.

A big thank you to Ann Brehm and Shannon Dunson who did a fabulous job of running the tournament this year. Their passion and excitement behind the scenes was evident. The tournament was well attended, and it was a testament to why we compete, because we saw WGA members laughing, crying, eating, and drinking, not to mention the huge accolades given to the current winners and the past winners.

We would also like to recognize the generosity of Robson Ranch Home Sales for sponsoring our lunch and the sparkling wine! Another big thank you to Jeremy, Jill, Chef, and their staff for preparing the requested recipes and serving a group of excited women with professionalism and poise.

A special thank you to Kelly Kay for creating the champions PowerPoint. The past champions loved the recognition and certainly the inclusion of their photos. Also, to Linda Scott and Jamey Siefert for running Golf Genius and keeping up with the handicaps. We could not have such a successful event without our golf pro Craig Pullen. He truly cares about our members and is always positive and willing to go above and beyond! Thank you, Craig. We are all “Wild About Our Champions!”
